Synopsis:
Ed Who?
Ed Gibbons. A ubiquitous TV personality who enjoyed a rapid rise to fame during the 1990s. A bit like Chris Evans…but with bags more sex appeal.
Hailed as TV’s ‘man of the decade’, each episode features a different show that Ed fronted during the period 1990-1999. This creates an impression that Ed experienced an unstoppable rise to fame during this decade. Shows that are parodied include The Word (a/k/a “The Rave”), Big Breakfast (a/k/a “WAKE UP!”), TFI Friday (a/k/a “The 6:30 Lock-In”) and Man o Man (a/k/a “Girl On Top”).
However, each episode is intercut with off-camera footage of the man behind the glossy TV mask - showing a frenetic but fragile ego, gradually going off the rails. Over the course of this first series, he will become a compelling character in his own right, while the 'broadcast' shows he fronts will give the viewer a warm nostalgia fix - peppered with OTT screen graphics and gimmicks from the 1990s era.
Trending on this current 1990s nostalgia vibe, Ed Gibbons Uncut will be an entertaining and affectionate revue of the televisual formats of the past two decades. It will poke fun at the mores, fads and trends of these decades and unearth a fake TV luminary in the guise of Ed Gibbons, who can spin off into many other projects and formats.
